Ginkgo Bonsai

This is a small design I created in its entirety—designing, inking, carving, and printing. I have always loved bonsai and have often been frustrated by the lack of overlap between the two art forms: bonsai and mokuhanga. There are a few large shin hanga prints and a number of small bonsai featured in other ukiyo-e works, but very rarely do you see prints where bonsai are the main focus. It always struck me as odd that this was not a major genre in Japanese prints. Alas, it's not. So, this was meant to be a small proof-of-concept work for much larger projects I had been planning for a number of years. This print was sent to my patrons as a New Year’s print at the beginning of 2024.
